Leonardo Cesar Ferreira, Ph.D. is a Worlds Ahead Scholar in International Communication and Director of International Programs at Florida International University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC). Faculty Advisory Board member of the University’s Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC), he is also Coordinator of the FIU Spanish-Language Master’s Program in Journalism, the first of its kind in the United States, founded in 1994. He was previously Associate Professor, Electronic Media, Broadcast Journalism & Media Management at the University of Miami School of Communication. A journalist from the Universidad Externado de Colombia and graduate of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia Law School, Dr. Ferreira is a specialist in the study of Latin American media history, comparative press policy, and communication development.

Born in Bogota, Ferreira initiated his career as a field reporter in the daily news program Noticiero TV Mundo-Channel 7. In the United States, he received his Ph. D degree in Mass Media from Michigan State University, and was awarded both an Excellence–in-Teaching Citation from the MSU Office of the Provost and a Martin Luther King, Jr.-César Chávez-Rosa Park Fellowship by the Michigan Department of Education. Under the mentorship of professors Mary A. Gardner, Bella Mody, and Joseph D. Straubhaar, Ferreira completed his graduate studies writing thesis and dissertation works on the adoption of satellite communications in the Americas.

Paola Prado, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Journalism and Digital Media at Roger Williams University, specializes in integrated communication, digital media convergence, and multimedia production. Her research focuses on the adoption of information and communication technologies for development and social change in Latin America and the U.S. Latino market.

A pioneer in online media, Prado directed content for the Latin American and U.S. Latino arm of RealNetworks and ElSitio.com. Prado began her journalism career at Reuters TV, and later headed affiliate relations for cable news networks TeleNoticias and the Weather Channel Latin America. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Miami, a M.A. in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University, and a B.A. in Cinema from Denison University.

Lyng-Hou Ramirez

Lyng-Hou Ramirez is the Content Director for Grupo de Diarios America (GDA). She is the main media liaison for the 11 GDA newsrooms. Coordinates the daily content exchange, joint editorial products and major news and events coverage. In charge of GDA.com, GDA Intranet and Content Management Platform, journalistic training programs and content sales operations.

Before joining GDA, Ramirez was the Director of Content for YupiMSN.com; Managing Editor for Aboard Magazines;  Broadcast journalist for BBC’s World Service Latin American Section, Press Officer for the UN/OAS International Civilian Mission in Haiti, editor and correspondent for several news agencies in Caracas, Washington, D.C. and Miami. She holds a M.A. in Journalism from the University of Miami and a B. S. in Mass Communication from the Universidad Central de Venezuela.

Jose Luis Aguirre

José Luis Aguirre is the  Director of SECRAD at Universidad Católica Boliviana and head of the Bolivian representation in Asociación Mundial de Radios Comunitarias (AMARC).
